Valgroup redirects investments to accelerate strategic growth in Europe
08/10/2026Recycling remains a strategic pillar for growth and sustainability
São Paulo, October 8, 2026 – Valgroup, a leading company in plastic production, transformation and recycling, announces the sale of its 30% minority stake in Extremadura TorrePet S.L. to Buenavista Infrastructure. Veolia Spain remains the company’s majority shareholder, retaining 70% of the share capital.
Founded by Valgroup in 2005, TorrePet is recognized as one of Europe’s leading PET recycling companies, operating across the entire rPET value chain and running Spain’s only bottle-to-bottle processing facility. Located in Torremejía, in the Extremadura region, the plant has the capacity to process approximately 50,000 tonnes of post-consumer PET annually, converting it into food-grade recycled resin for the production of new packaging. Having already sold 70% of its stake to Veolia in 2019, Valgroup now completes its exit from the business through this transaction with Buenavista Infrastructure.
The transaction is part of Valgroup’s ongoing strategy to optimize its portfolio and allocate capital to assets that are more closely integrated with its global industrial operations.
This decision does not reflect any change in the Company’s view of the recycling industry’s potential or the growing importance of the recycled PET market. On the contrary, the circular economy and the development of sustainable solutions remain central to Valgroup’s growth strategy.
The rationale behind the divestment is related to the industrial fit of the operation within the Company’s European platform. Valgroup currently does not operate preform manufacturing facilities in Spain, which limits the operational and commercial synergies typically associated with PET recycling operations. This contrasts with Italy, where the Company benefits from integrated recycling and preform production activities.
Lucas Geronimi, Executive Director of Valgroup, commented: “Recycling remains a strategic business for Valgroup and continues to be one of the cornerstones of our long-term vision. This transaction reflects our disciplined approach to portfolio management and our commitment to allocating capital to assets that are more closely aligned with the Company’s industrial strategy. We are proud of the journey we have shared with TorrePet and of the role we have played in strengthening one of Europe’s leading PET recycling platforms. We are confident that the company will continue to expand its contribution to the circular economy alongside its new partners.”
For Buenavista Infrastructure, the acquisition represents the seventh and final investment made through the Buenavista Infraestructuras Iberia I fund and marks the firm’s entry into the waste treatment and recovery sector, a market driven by increasingly ambitious European Union targets and regulatory requirements for plastics recycling, particularly for food-grade applications.
Commenting on the transaction, Victoriano López-Pinto, Managing Partner at Buenavista Infrastructure, said: “With the addition of TorrePet to our portfolio, we are acquiring a unique asset thanks to its technological leadership and its ability to produce food-grade rPET in a market undergoing significant transformation. Partnering with Veolia, the global leader in environmental services, presents a clear opportunity to continue growing in a sector that will shape the future of sustainable infrastructure across Europe. This seventh investment also marks the successful completion of the fund’s investment period and demonstrates the continued confidence of our investors, who have enabled the creation
of a diversified and resilient portfolio, well positioned to address the new challenges of sustainable infrastructure.”
Valgroup will continue to focus on strengthening its recycling operations and developing solutions that enhance material circularity, investing in initiatives aligned with its long-term strategy and the needs of its customers and markets.
