Valgroup athlete Fernando Aranha is champion among the 98th São Silvestre

On Sunday December 31st, 2023, paralympic athlete Fernando Aranha, sponsored by Valgroup, wrote another chapter in his career by winning the highest title among wheelchair athletes at the 98th São Silvestre, in São Paulo.

The event, which marks the end of every year, was the stage for Aranha’s determination, crossing the finish line as the first winner in his category, completing the challenging 15 kilometers in 50 min and 12 sec.

The squad of wheelchair racers started at 7:25 a.m., and right from the beginning Fernando Aranha showed his skill, standing out as the leader from the first moments of the race. The other athletes, Rogério Costa, and Carlos Antônio Guedes do Nascimento, took second and third place respectively.

This victory at the São Silvestre race in 2023 highlights another achievement in Fernando Aranha’s career, as he had already made his mark at the Rio de Janeiro Paralympics in 2016. On that occasion, he became the first Brazilian athlete competing in the triathlon, making a successful debut in this modality. He was also a pioneer when he represented Brazil at the Paralympic Winter Games in the same year, taking part in cross-country skiing event.
