Valgroup develops bottles with recycled resin for Kraft Heinz Brazil

One of the largest food and beverage companies in the world, Kraft Heinz, has teamed up with Valgroup – one of the largest producers, processors and recyclers of plastic – to use packaging made from PET PCR (post-consumer recycled resin) in its portfolio of the Heinz product line in Brazil.

The development of this new packaging relies on Valgroup’s expertise. Valgroup is a pioneer in the implementation of bottle-to-bottle recycling technology in PETR PCR food grade resin in Brazil. As it is a product without the addition of additives or preservatives, the project required a quality PET PCR resin to ensure the integrity of the product’s flavor, smell and color.

For Valgroup, participating in this project reinforces its commitment to sustainability. The company has a strong ESG positioning, such as being NET ZERO by 2040, neutralizing carbon emissions and recycling the equivalent of 100% of the amount of packaging produced in the company’s entire portfolio, effectively contributing to the circular economy by removing plastic waste from the environment.

The Sustainability Coordinator, Tatiane Anjos, and the Valgroup Project Manager, Pedro Godoy, also talk about how the use of the material brings different socio-environmental benefits such as the promotion of the circular economy of plastic, positively affecting the networks of recyclable material collectors for the creation of recycled raw materials, and the importance of a quality resin to keep a bottle (such as the Kraft Heinz bottle), with ideal color, shine, and transparency to bring the same quality that customers are used to.

The use of material with a percentage coming from recycled sources has been used for Heinz ketchup packaging since November of this year.
